PORT SECURITY
TWIC Certified Carriers at the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach
All drayage drivers entering the secure terminal area at the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach must hold a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card, issued by the Transportation Security Administration. Carriers that cannot guarantee TWIC-credentialed drivers face automatic gate rejections — triggering missed appointments, detention fees, and shipment delays.
Why TWIC Matters at This Port
At the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach, terminal security checkpoints are non-negotiable. Every driver must present a valid TWIC card for biometric verification before entering. Booking a carrier whose drivers lack TWIC credentials is one of the most preventable causes of drayage failure at US seaports.
California Compliance Requirements
- CARB Clean Truck Standards: Engines must meet 2010 model-year emission standards or newer. Older trucks are prohibited from operating at LA/LB terminals.
- UIIA Membership: Required for access to the shared chassis pools operated at the port complex. Most terminals will not release containers without a valid UIIA agreement.
- Clean Truck Program Registration: Trucks must be registered with the Port's Clean Trucks Program and display a valid green sticker.
- AB5 Awareness: California's AB5 law affects driver classification. Carriers operating at LA/LB should have documented compliance status.
