Hazmat Drayage Carriers at the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach
Moving hazardous materials containers through the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach requires carriers with DOT hazmat-endorsed drivers, a registered hazmat safety program, and familiarity with the specific terminal protocols for hazmat container release and handling. Not all drayage carriers at this port are qualified for hazmat moves.
Why Hazmat Matters at This Port
Hazmat containers at the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach require correct placarding, documented emergency response procedures in the cab, and drivers with active HazMat CDL endorsements. Selecting a carrier without verified hazmat capability is a compliance violation and a liability risk for the cargo owner and forwarder.
California Compliance Requirements
- CARB Clean Truck Standards: Engines must meet 2010 model-year emission standards or newer. Older trucks are prohibited from operating at LA/LB terminals.
- UIIA Membership: Required for access to the shared chassis pools operated at the port complex. Most terminals will not release containers without a valid UIIA agreement.
- Clean Truck Program Registration: Trucks must be registered with the Port's Clean Trucks Program and display a valid green sticker.
- AB5 Awareness: California's AB5 law affects driver classification. Carriers operating at LA/LB should have documented compliance status.
